Imagine if we could wake up everyday feeling like this. I imagine it to be like the movie 50 First Dates. We wake up seeing the day as wonderful, not letting the past or future cloud our point of view but instead be in the present and enjoy it for the adventure, joy and positive change it can bring.
Thoughts
Unfortunately, though, that is not the reality we live in. We live in the past and future more often than we are in the present. We will often make decisions based on past information and what our desires for the future to be, instead of making the decision based on who does this affect now and what is the best decision right now. Sometimes, as leaders, parents, and people who desire for a better tomorrow, we must live in the present because there is no guarantee for a new tomorrow.
That is why this quote from Maya Angelou is so impactful to me. As a pioneer creative, I am always thinking and planning for the future and spend very little time in the present. However, maybe I need to take some time and think about the present in order to see the wonder today brings because I have not seen it before.
